Nerevar Blue
“So why
would anyone want to write a novel length fan-fic about a decade old game?”
I’ve been asked this question
several times, in many ways, some much kinder than others. The simple answer to this query is that it
was fun, probably the best hobby I've ever had—but there’s more to it than that.
I was inspired, even compelled to write Nerevar Blue after incorporating
Kateri’s mod, Ashlander Julan into the game http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Kateri.htm. Simply put, the mod is brilliant, immersive and completely addictive. While playing The Elderscrolls (which I've done, on and off for years) I would often find
myself thinking of what I would say or do in any given situation. I finally decided that instead of day dreaming,
I would strive to do something slightly more constructive. So I began to write, and what started out as
short story turned into a 226 page monster.
This site was designed to look like a story book, though how successful I've been in that endeavor remains to be seen. Finding appropriate screen shots was my greatest challenge (outside of writing). The main obstacle I faced with the screen shots was that I could only make my character stand or crouch. It's very hard to have a scene where two people are sitting by the fire when neither of them are sitting. I'm sure that had I been blessed with any talent as a modder, I could have easily overcome this inconvenient handicap, but I'm not so the reader will have to use some imagination. Also, I picked angles and shots of my character or other NPCs that would covey the emotion of that particular scene or chapter. I've tried to incorporate as many action shots as possible because who just wants to look at screen shots of the same characters that they (if they are avid gamers) have seen a million times? This story is peppered with different references to works that I love, so if you see something that looks familiar, chances are it is.

By now, I imagine that most people who faithfully played Morrowind have moved on to fresher pastures—I won’t be
giving anything away. That being said, I
advise anyone who has never played the game or incorporated the Julan
Kaushibael mod to turn away now (barring the 3 or 4 people who will actually
read this because they are either a friend or
family member)
because this will be a spoiler. Also,
this is not a kiddy book. This fan-fic
is chock full of adult situations. What
that means, boys and girls is that my characters smoke, occasionally have sex
and from time to time use language that would paint a room blue. So any 13 or 14 year old is asked firmly to
turn away and stop reading (which of course they won’t, guaranteeing me at
least two more readers).
This is my first attempt at writing
anything other than deadly dull reports or terrible poetry. Most of the writing and dialog is original
though I incorporated much of the conversations prompts from Kateri’s mod and
of course the game itself, Morrowind © 2003 Bethesda Softworks LLC. The following
mods (in the grid below) were incredible inspirations, so thank you. Alien Slof's mod (Morrowind Goth Shop) would not fit in the grid, and I end user that I am could not get this page to cooperate, so here's the linky http://www.slofslair.co.uk/index.php?page=modarticle&modarticle/id=5qu3t6s7430. Also here some links of where you can find the other mods: Emma's Mods http://lovkullen.net/Emma/index.htm, Telesphoros List of Mods http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm, and you can always go Planet Elderscrolls http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.list. Also if you are planning on running a ton of mods Wrye Mash is an invaluable tool http://wryemusings.com/Wrye%20Mash.html#GetandInstall. A great deal of lore and background information was provided by The UESPWiki http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Morrowind.Mods:
